Nottinghamshire Police warning after men 'fishing illegally' at country park

A warning has been issued by police after an incident of illegal fishing at a Nottinghamshire park. Officers were alerted to the incident at the Cotgrave Country Park, at both Heron Lake and Grantham Canal on Monday afternoon, May 8.

Three males were found fishing at these locations upon police arrival. These males will now subsequently be reported for fishing without a licence.

Nottinghamshire Police said it is an offence which can see offenders fined up to £2500. The force said officers will now work together with the Environment Agency following this incident.

Operation Traverse tackles illegal fishing and waterside antisocial behaviour along lakes, rivers and waterways with officers regularly conducting proactive patrols as well as responding to reports made by members of the public. Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report incidents to police by calling 101 or 999 where a crime is in progress or in an emergency.
