Nottinghamshire Police statement after officers cordon off The Arboretum in search

Nottinghamshire Police have have issued a statement after officers were seen searching an area of a popular Nottingham park. A cordon was put in place at a section of The Arboretum, off Arboretum Street, on Friday (July 1) afternoon.

Police tape was wrapped around trees and officers were seen sifting through nearby bins at around 2pm. Detective Inspective Daniel Johnstone said that police had been carrying out the enquiries since 11am as part of an investigation.

He said no reported injuries had been linked to the incident. Helen Hutton, who was walking her dog through The Arboretum on Friday afternoon, said she was very worried. “You have to be very careful nowadays. You do not know who is out and about," said the 59-year-old who lives in the city centre.

“It is just scary because it looks like something horrible must have happened. I am always worried when I see police vans and cars. Bad things keep happening in this city and it is out of our control.”

DI Johnstone, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers have been carrying out enquiries at The Arboretum park since around 11am today (July 1) as part of an ongoing investigation. There have been no reported injuries linked to this incident and there isn’t believed to be any wider risk to the public. A police cordon remains in place while these enquiries continue.”
