The sun's out and what better way to enjoy the summer weather than a picnic in the park with family or friends. Thoresby Park, Sherwood Pines, and Rufford Park are amongst the Nottinghamshire beauty spots perfect for a sandwich and a sausage roll especially since National Picnic Week gets underway on Saturday June 17.
But a country park, closer to the city, has been named the number one budget and family-friend picnic by leading meat-free brand, Quorn. The crown goes to Rushcliffe Country Park near Ruddington.
Parks across England were ranked on several factors including budget (all but one of the parks is free entry for everyone) child-friendliness and accessibility, as well as each park’s public transport links, onsite parking and toilet facilities.

The study said of Rushcliffe: "Perfect for those looking for a burst of nature and remoteness, you can meander through the eight kilometres of pathways when searching for that hidden picnic spot away from the crowds. Bursting with wild meadows, grassland and woodland, keep your eyes peeled for birds, bees and natural beauty everywhere you look."
The park has plenty of benches and tables for picnickers and there's a a café that sells ice creams. Parking costs £1 for the whole day.
