A Newark man who was sentenced to death last month by an internationally unrecognised Russian court, has been filmed singing the Russian national anthem during his capture, according to reports. The disturbing footage shows Aiden Aslin being forced to sing the anthem on state TV the Mirror reports.
Britons, Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, were fighting with the Ukrainian Army when they had been captured by Russian forces in April, whilst defending Mariupol. Both men had been living in Ukraine before the conflict with Russia, and were under contract to the Ukraine Army and entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention.
Despite this, both men were sentenced to death by the Donetsk People's Republic, along with Moroccan national, Brahim Saadoun. All three men have appealed their death sentences and it is believed that Aiden is being held in a detention centre in Donetsk.
The footage of Aiden singing has been shown on pro-Putin channels and appears to have been created by the propaganda channel, RT. In the video US exile and former cop, John Mark Dougan, is urging Aiden to sing.
Dougan is believed to be working for the Russian propaganda outfit Sputnik International.
