Nottinghamshire man, 79, robbed on his doorstep in 'despicable crime'

A Nottinghamshire pensioner was robbed on his doorstep - by people he was trying to help. The 79-year-old was inside his home in Shelford Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent, when he heard a knock on the door so went to answer it.

He was greeted by a man and a woman who asked him for directions to a nearby supermarket. As he was giving them instructions of where to go, the duo grabbed the pensioner and snatched a watch from his wrist before fleeing the scene.

An investigation has since been launched into the robbery, which happened at around 7pm on Thursday (February 16). Both suspects are described as white, in their mid-20s and of slim build, with the man and woman understood to be around 6ft and 5ft 8in tall respectively.

The man also had dark hair and was wearing dark-coloured clothing at the time. The woman had long light-coloured hair and was wearing a light-coloured coat.

Detective Constable Karam Kaur, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a despicable crime against an elderly man who was simply trying to help two people who knocked on his door. We are absolutely determined to track down the man and woman responsible for committing this robbery, which has understandably left the victim shaken up.

"It is extremely important that anyone who saw what happened or thinks they might know who these people are based on the descriptions given, gets in touch with us. Any information, however small or insignificant it might seem, could really assist our inquiries, so we'd ask anyone who knows anything to please contact us on 101, quoting incident 684 of 16 February 2023."
