A Nottinghamshire man died after being stabbed while on holiday in Amsterdam. Danny Castledine, a 22-year-old student at Leeds Beckett University, died after the incident on the Singel on June 1.

Dutch authorities said a 22-year-old Belgian man was arrested on the same day on suspicion of manslaughter. He will appear in the court of Amsterdam on August 26.

Opening an inquest into Mr Castledine’s death at Nottingham Council House on Friday, July 29, coroner Mairin Casey said he was formally identified on June 11 by his parents Alison and Paul Castledine. “A post mortem has been carried out which found a provisional cause of death of 1a) multiple stab wounds,” she said.

“We are awaiting further confirmation from police in the Netherlands’ investigation as it is a criminal offence.” A spokesman for the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service told Nottinghamshire Live: “A 22-year- old man from Belgium was arrested on 1st of June on suspicion of manslaughter.

“He is placed in detention and will appear in the court of Amsterdam on 26th of August. The investigation is not complete. The case is therefore not yet being substantively tried. A date for the substantive trial is not yet set.”
