An investigation will take place after a prisoner died at HMP Lowdham Grange. A man died at the category B prison in Nottinghamshire on Monday (March 6).
The prison, which changed hands from Serco to Sodexo last month, said it could not give any further details at this stage. “We can confirm that a HMP Lowdham Grange prisoner died on March 6, 2023," said a spokesperson.
"Next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with the family. As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and therefore we are unable to comment further at this stage.”
HMP Lowdham Grange holds nearly 900 male prisoners and has around 500 staff. Sodexo took on a 10-year contract from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) from February 16, making it the French company's sixth prison across England and Scotland.
