Nottinghamshire leisure centre forced to close as travellers arrive on site

A Nottinghamshire leisure centre is being forced to close this weekend due to travellers arriving on its site. The centre will be closed throughout Sunday (July 2).

The centre affected is the Chilwell Olympia, situated close to Long Eaton and Beeston. A post confirming the news was issued by Liberty Leisure, a wholly owned trading company of Broxtowe Borough Council.

Its post read: "Due to travellers currently on site at Chilwell Olympia, the centre will be closed all day on Sunday 2nd July. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused."

The centre would usually be open from 8am until 5pm on Sundays, with Google data showing the site being particularly popular in the mornings. The leisure centre is situated on the same land as the Chilwell School, where travellers previously pitched up on a field last year.
