Nottinghamshire farmers turn dairy farm into 'unique' homes with 'great views' in Burton Joyce

Nottinghamshire farmers have turned a dilapidated dairy farm into 'unique' homes with 'great views'. A section of land at Glebe Farm in Burton Joyce which was until recently a "concrete mess" is being transformed into new 14 homes.

Frank and Tania Taylor, who own various farms across Nottinghamshire including Glebe Farm, undertook the development themselves after deciding the old diary farm needed to be replaced. Tania said the site was now a "special place", with the main construction contractor even choosing to move into one of the new homes.

"It was an old dairy farm before we did anything and it was just one big giant dilapidated concrete mess. We were left with this nightmare of these old farmhouse buildings, and the two options were to either put up chicken sheds or alternatively to try and do something with housing," Mrs Taylor said.

"We got permission for 14 new dwellings to replace the farmhouse and barn and had a number of developers put offers in, but because we are neighbours we wanted to make sure it was something we could be really proud of and we didn't trust anybody to do that other than us. The construction and design team are almost all local too.

"I think what we're creating there is something that I struggle to see anywhere else. Everyone that comes to the site comments on just how incredible the quality is, there is a lot of attention to detail, even on things like the brickwork.

"Every house is individual and the setting is just incredible, you've got views of Trent Valley and you're surrounded by woodland and open countryside. It is a special place, it's unique.

"The main contractor after being on site for six weeks decided that he wanted to buy one of the homes. All the interior is custom designed, so if people want to move walls we can move walls, and we work with Cooks & Company in Newark to hand make cabinetry - people can go watch their kitchens and wardrobes being made if they want."

Six of the homes are now occupied at the Glebe Farm development, with another home finished but not yet occupied. Seven properties are now available for sale at Glebe Farm, with six available for purchase off plan with a full scope of bespoke interiors and layouts.

Ben Atkin of BMA Homes, the site's main contractor has himself moved into one of the new properties, citing its views and location. Mr Atkin said: "It's a fantastic site, it has great views and a great location so from a financial point of view it just made sense to get one myself. Before I even started the job I put my name down for one, but then we changed a few things and made it a bit bigger so it's turned out well.

"We sold the first stage very quickly. We like to make them as bespoke as we can and get the buyers involved so that they can be built to their needs and wants."

Those interested in the new properties should make a viewing appointment through estate agent Johnsons and Partners. There is currently an offer of £5,000 towards home upgrades for all properties currently for sale off plan for any purchaser who completes the reservation process before Christmas Eve.
