The owners of a Nottinghamshire fancy dress shop have announced it will be closing 'in the near future' due to rising costs. The management behind Chameleons Fancy Dress, on Exchange Street in Retford, confirmed the upcoming closure on Monday, May 29, Lincolnshire Live reports.
The effects of both the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis mean it is 'no longer an option' to stay open, despite nearly 10 years of serving customers. In a post on social media, they said: "It is with great regret that we have to announce we will be closing down in the near future.
"We have had nearly nine years at Chameleons but since the pandemic and the increased cost of living it is now not an option to stay open. Especially as the modern trend is to shop online, even though we have matched internet prices wherever possible."

They added: "We would like to thank past customers for their support." Over the coming weeks, there will be a 15-percent-off sale on the fancy dress outfits at the shop.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from residents and shoppers. One customer wrote: "So sorry to read this, Janet, but the footfall in the town has been horrendous over the last 12 to 18 months.
"Good luck in whatever you do going forward." Another said: "Aw, I will miss you on Halloween."
A final closing date has not yet been confirmed. Going forward, Chameleons will be open between 10 and 2pm on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
