A man who got behind the wheel of his van after drinking before driving a short distance at a caravan park to get away from his family during a row was almost twice over the limit, a court heard. Wayne Johnson, 49, was discovered by police in his Ford Transit just 750 yards from his caravan at The Chase caravan park in Ingoldmells, Lincoln Magistrates' Court was told.
As reported by Lincolnshire Live, Emma Gilberthorpe, prosecuting, said Johnson had been locked out of his caravan by a family member at about 9.30pm and got into his van drove off. She said: "Fifteen minutes later he returned. The family refused him access to the caravan and called the police.
"He went back to his vehicle and drove away. The police found the defendant 750 yards from the caravan and he was arrested for being drunk in charge of a vehicle. In police interview he said he had wanted to be out of sight of his family so he could calm down effectively."

The court heard Johnson was breathalysed and gave a reading of 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Johnson, a ground worker, of Micklebarrow Close, Southwell, admitted a charge of drink driving on April 15.
Darren Withers, in mitigation, said: "He drove a very short distance, away and out of sight of the caravan. He did not leave the caravan park. He did not intend to drive any further." Johnson was banned from driving for 19 months.
