Councils across Nottinghamshire have provided an update on the Government's £150 tax rebate for those who are yet to receive it. The costs of living continue to rise, with fuel prices remaining at never before seen highs and energy bills set to soar over the winter months, and the tax rebate was first issued in an attempt to help financially struggling Brits.
Since the rebate was promised months ago amid soaring energy bills, the Conservative Government was forced to U-turn and pledge more support as costs continued to rise and concerns became graver. For most people, particularly those who pay by direct debit, the rebate has now been paid, but for those who don't the wait has been longer.
Some residents had been reporting delays to their payments, too, including Nottingham City Council taxpayers. The city council responded to say it's been difficult for councils to facilitate the payments under a government system which is "far from perfect" and Nottinghamshire Live understood some of these problems arise due to a number of accounts having no first name or the account having a different name on its direct debit.

It is understood the Government-imposed deadline is September 30 for all mandatory cases and October 31 for the discretionary cases, a Gedling Borough Council spokesman told Nottinghamshire Live.
The council added: "We will have an application deadline a few days before 30 September to give us an opportunity to process the last claims, but the date we choose will depend on the number of eligible claimants remaining at that time. It is likely to be just a couple of days before 30 September."
For those who do not pay via direct debit and have failed to fill out forms or respond to their local authority, it is understood their accounts will be credited or a Post Office voucher will be issued instead.
An Ashfield District Council spokesman said: "September 30 is the final date when all payments must have been completed. No payments will be made after this date.
"For those who haven’t applied we will either transfer the credit to their council tax account or issue them with a Post Office voucher for £150. Either way, everyone will have been paid by 30 September."
In Rushcliffe, the council says all eligible residents have now received their payments, and Broxtowe Borough Council stated the deadline will similarly be the end of September this year. For those concerned about not having received a form to fill out or a letter in the post, Broxtowe Borough Council has provided an update on this, too.
A spokeswoman added: "At this point, we will credit council tax accounts for those that have not applied."
Finally, Nottingham City Council confirmed the same. For the non-discretionary scheme it’s end of September and for the discretionary scheme it’s the end of November. These are national deadlines set by central Government.
