A Nottinghamshire council has said it is 'pursuing release' from contracts with a Russian energy company following the invasion of Ukraine.
Bassetlaw District Council has revealed it had "two small contracts" with energy supplier Gazprom, which it is currently looking to be released from.
Locals councils have been revising relationships with Gazprom, which is majority owned by the Russian state, as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Councillor June Evans, cabinet member for finance at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “We currently have two small contracts with Gazprom, which we are actively pursuing options to be released from.
"We stand with the Ukrainian people and do not wish to support or contract in any services that are provided by companies that have a direct link to Russia or who may support Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.”
Nottinghamshire Live has contacted all local authorities in the county over whether they have any links to the Russian energy company.
Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council, Gedling Borough Council, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, Broxtowe Borough Council, Mansfield District Council, and Rushcliffe Borough Council have all confirmed they have no links or active contracts with Gazprom.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Ashfield District Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council have also been contacted by Nottinghamshire Live.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is in its seventh day as of Wednesday, March 2.
So far, 660,000 people have fled Ukraine and while the UN human rights office said it has recorded 136 civilian deaths, the actual toll is likely to be far higher.
There have been multiple protests in Nottinghamshire by Ukrainian families against the war being waged on the country.
