Nottinghamshire bin lorry catches fire after car battery put in waste

A bin lorry caught fire due to a car battery being disposed of in a bin, a Nottinghamshire council has said. A refuse vehicle was forced to eject part of its load onto the street after it caught fire yesterday (Tuesday, September 7).

Broxtowe Borough Council, which owns the lorry, said it was caused by a car battery being disposed of in a bin. "Please do not put any motorbike or car batteries in your bin, these must be taken to your local household waste recycling centre," it urged in a statement on Facebook.

The council said no binmen were harmed. Two crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
