Nottinghamshire bar's bid to extend opening hours to 1.30am

The owner of a Nottinghamshire bar is hoping to extend weekend opening hours until 1.30am. Bar Zeon, in Main Street, Kimberley, currently closes at 12.30am.

Owner James Towle has applied to Broxtowe Borough Council to change the change the times on Friday and Saturday. The bar serves cocktails and regularly puts on drag acts and live music.

Zeon opened in July 2021 just as the pandemic was dying down. Last November it was given a revamp. A new bar, new booths, new kitchen and a new dance floor were installed.

James said: "Currently last orders is midnight and we close at 12.30am. As with much of hospitality the cost of living crisis has had a massive impact in on the pub and bar industry so as a small independent business we are looking at every avenue to keep the business thriving.

"Currently our busiest time comes towards the end of the night, so we end up closing while busy. We do operate a last entry and this will remain in place but allows our customers that are in already enjoying their evening to carry on.

"When we first opened we closed at 10pm and after a few months we were granted permission to stay open until later. Throughout this period we have shown our bar doesn’t create noise or trouble. We are the only venue in town that has door supervisors. Our head door supervisor is a lady, which is very rare."

Future plans for the bar include opening it as a daytime cafe called the Luncheonette. James hopes it will be up and running in the summer.
