Nottingham school praised for having ‘pupils at its heart’ following Ofsted inspection

The 'polite and well mannered' behaviour of pupils at a primary school in Sneinton has been recognised by Ofsted inspectors.

A report from the education watchdog following inspection also noted that pupils said that if bullying does occur "adults act to stop it straight away".

William Booth Primary and Nursery School has once again been handed a 'good' overall rating.

The inspection follows the school's conversion to an academy.

The report states “pupils are at the heart of this inclusive school” and Ofsted highlighted how pupils are encouraged to ‘believe in themselves’.

The inspectors noted that the leaders want everyone to be successful learners and how the pupils are very keen to learn.

The extracurricular activities available to pupils were also praised.

The pupils told inspectors: “We are all human beings. We are all a team."

The reports also states how pupils love reading and highlighted the school’s “rock and read” programme to encourage reading at home.

The report mentions why the school hasn't received an 'outstanding' rating.

It states: "A small amount of teaching is not yet good enough to help all ability groups achieve well and, occasionally, the most able pupils are not given sufficiently demanding work."

William Booth School, in Notintone Street, Sneinton, has nearly 250 pupils.

It joined the Transform Trust in 2017.

In its previous inspection in 2014 the school received a 'Good' rating, the school having been rated 'inadequate' following a 2010 inspection.

Headteacher Claire Paparozzi said: “I am delighted that our school, our children and our incredible staff have been recognised in such a positive light in our latest Ofsted report. Our collaborative approach and commitment as a team has forged a caring and vibrant culture where everyone belongs.

“The William Booth community deserves the very best from its school and we are ambitious in our approach and our plans for the future. We will continue to work in partnership with our parents and the wider community because we believe it is essential in delivering the best education for our children.

“I would like to recognise the continual hard work and dedication of every member of our staff team, inside and outside of the classroom. They are the catalyst for this journey of improvement and it would not have been possible without them. These are the people that make the biggest difference to our William Booth children and their education.”

Transform Trust chief executive, Rebecca Meredith, added: “Claire and her team are committed to the children and their community.

"I am sure they will continue to strive for excellence in all that they do.

"Ofsted has rightly recognised William Booth’s efforts and improvement to date as well as the school’s inclusive, high-quality learning environment and the kindness and fun that runs through everything they and the Transform Trust family of schools strive to deliver every day.”
