Nottingham's Games Workshop tipped for Amazon Warhammer TV series with Superman's Henry Cavill

Superman actor Henry Cavill has been tipped to star in an upcoming Amazon TV series based on the Warhammer 40,000 game made in Nottingham. The Lenton-based Games Workshop is the manufacturer of the internationally popular game, which has attracted a multitude of celebrity fans over the years.

One of those fans is the British actor Henry Cavill, who played Superman in the DC films for around ten years as well as starring in productions such as the Netflix series The Witcher. Speaking about Warhammer 40,000 previously on Graham Norton's BBC chat show, Henry Cavill said: "You put them together in little armies and you fight against someone else's army. It's fun. It sounds ridiculous but it is fun."

The IMDb movie website is now reporting that Henry Cavill is attached to star in an upcoming Amazon Studios adaptation of the Warhammer game. The site reports that Amazon is currently in final talks with Games Workshop for the rights after months of negotiations and that the deal has not closed yet.

Games Workshop said at the time that it made no claim for government support during the coronavirus pandemic as a result of its financial success.

Founded in 1975, the firm, which began life as a mail-order business for fantasy role-playing games, now makes tens of millions of models a year. The company's Warhammer World site in Nottingham also features a dedicated bar and restaurant and exhibition hall.
