Nottingham property group merges with Leicestershire building firm

Nottingham-based Acres Construction has merged with Leicestershire building contractor Alexa Residential so that it can fulfil more orders.

The deal means Alexa Residential owner Alexander Astle and the four other members of his team will work at the head office of Acres Construction parent company the Acres Group on Nottingham’s Science Park.

Mr Astle had been contracted by the Acres Group on a number of residential projects and was aware of Acres’ expansion plans.

The move provides Acres with direct access to around 20 additional independent contractors who have worked for Alexa Residential, which should help it fulfil its growing order book.

Edward Acres, founder and managing director of the Acres Group, said: “This merger illustrates the amazing success that the Acres Group has achieved over the past couple of years.

“I’d like to welcome Alex and his staff on board, as they will broaden the expertise and experience within the group and, particularly, our construction division.”

He founded Acres Architects in 2008 from his parent’s spare bedroom.

Around two years ago, he embarked on a growth strategy which would enable the new Acres Group to deliver a suite of services from design concept right through to building completion.

The group now consists of several divisions including Acres Construction, Acres Interiors, Acres Developments and Online Media Video Productions (OMVP).

Its workforce has grown from three to more than 20 in 18 months, and turnover has grown from a few hundred thousand pounds to sales of £12 million, with around £25 million in the pipeline.

Mr Acres said: “Our ambition is to become a nationally recognised business through organic growth.

“It was always my plan as part of the Acres Group business model to identify suitable competitors and bring them on board.”

The Acres Group works on developments ranging from private residential projects to large-scale commercial contracts.

Alex Astle said: “This is really the perfect result for everyone concerned.

“I wanted to work with and be part of a like-minded organisation that puts clients at the forefront of everything it does and delivers the best projects possible.

“Having previously worked with Ed, I knew that he had some extremely ambitious expansion plans and was looking to grow the construction division in the Acres Group. So I figured this deal would be mutually beneficial.

“I’m now looking forward to becoming part of the Acres success story and helping the group continue its ambitious plans for growth.”

He will be reporting directly to Tony Moore, head of Acres Construction, who was instrumental in seeing the deal across the line.
