A long-established Nottingham sex shop has been put on the market after the city council decided to sell off the building. The building on Upper Parliament Street is currently being leased to The Private Shop which has been supplying the city with sex toys and DVDs for more than 30 years.
The decision was taken by Nottingham City Council on March 14 to pass on ownership of the property at 81-85 Upper Parliament Street. It will be put up for sale by public auction on September 18 at The Nottingham Racecourse, The Centenary Suite, and the guide price is listed as £300,000-£350,000.
The current tenancy runs from 2019 to 2025. The lease currently brings in a rent of £30,000 per year, but Auction Estates have said there is an opportunity to re-negotiate the lease and utilise vacant space.

The business' manager has assured customers he will 'fight until the end' to carry on trading if new owners have plans that don't involve his business. When approached by Nottinghamshire Live previously, manager Barry Maltby said he "didn't know anything" about it in advance of the decision being made.
When approached over the listing of the building, a spokesperson for The Private Shop said: "It's only the building that is up for sale, it's nothing to do with the shop at all. The lease carries on as it would under the council."
Speaking previously, a spokesperson for Nottingham City Council said: “We acquired these premises a number of years ago in readiness for a regeneration scheme, which unfortunately didn’t go ahead. We are therefore selling the property as part of our drive to dispose of property assets we no longer need, to bring in an income to the council from the sale.”
