A pharmaceutical company has appointed a contractor to build its new 50,000 sq ft development and manufacturing plant.
Upperton Pharma Solutions is building the new site at the Trent Gateway Business Park in Beeston, a couple of miles from its current headquarters in Albert Einstein Centre, Nottingham Science Park.
The £15 million facility will create around 100 jobs and allow the company to significantly increase its research and development (R&D) laboratory and manufacturing space.
It has appointed T-SQUARED, a specialist in hi-tech buildings for science and innovation companies, as the principal design and build contractor on the scheme.
Upperton chief executive Nikki Whitfield said the appointment of T-SQUARED was a hugely important milestone for the project, which is expected to be completed towards the end of 2023.
She said: “Our new state-of-the-art facility is being built to satisfy our increasing customer demand to extend our service offering further along the drug development pathway.
“The design and build of a site that can meet our clients’ requirements from a complexity, scale and potency perspective, whilst meeting all the necessary regulatory requirements, is an exciting but significant project therefore we are delighted we have been able to appoint industry leader T-SQUARED to partner with us on this task.’’
Upperton has more than 20 years’ experience in delivering science-led early drug development solutions to pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients worldwide.
The company - which employs around 50 staff - uses its expertise to develop a wide-range of non-sterile, finished dosage formats for its clients.
The new facilities will allow Upperton to support existing and new clients further in their product development journey.
It will have the capability to develop and manufacture medicines in a range of dose forms.
