Neighbours on a Nottingham street have been left without internet after a lorry knocked over a telegraph pole while trying to access a building site. The vehicle collided with the post in Beckhampton Road, Bestwood, at around 10am on Monday, January 9.
Residents said the driver was trying to reverse down the road when it struck the pole, causing it to tilt and the wires to snap. “I thought it’d hit a van," recalled Sheila Watson, 75, whose house has been left without internet or a home phone signal as a result.
"I heard such a bang and thought it had hit something. I looked and the pole was at an angle and the wires had snapped. So now I’ve got no Sky or phone or nothing. I pay £120 a month for Sky so my grandson can use it."

BT Openreach said it had arranged to fit the replacement pole on Friday. Neighbours said large vehicles frequently travel down the road due to the ongoing work to build 129 Nottingham City Homes properties, which is being delivered by Lovell Homes.
Ms Watson's grandson, Alex Terry, 17, said he was struggling to do his college work without internet. “I’ve been trying to do college work at home but we’ve got no internet, I’ve got a lot to do at the moment," he said.
"My grandma couldn’t get on the phone to make a doctor's appointment.” Callum Baker, a 35-year-old landscaper who runs a business from home, added: “One of the trucks backed into it and snapped all the cables, it was mayhem.
"I can’t take any emails or anything like that.” A spokesperson for Openreach said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption here. One of our poles was damaged earlier this week and engineers attended to make the area safe.
"We’ve arranged for the replacement pole to be installed and this is due to take place on Friday. As soon as the pole is back in, engineers will reconnect the wires between neighbouring properties to it.”
