Nottingham musician Jake Bugg to play huge homecoming gig at Motorpoint Arena

Nottingham musician Jake Bugg is set to play a homecoming gig at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday, November 26. The show will celebrate that it has been ten years since the release of his debut self-titled album.

The celebrations will see the release of a special 10th Anniversary Edition of Jake Bugg later this year. The show will feature the album played in its entirety as well as new tracks. Special guests who have been featured at various stages of his career will also make an appearance during the show.

Reflecting on his career which has seen the release of four albums since his debut, Jake feels it has been a surreal rise. He believes that his song writing has matured over the years.

"It's been incredible, to be honest. It's surreal that it's ten years old now. I've matured in my song writing but it's been a natural progression from the age of 18 to 28. You do a lot of growing up during that time and I've been lucky to work with some amazing people. "

Growing up in Clifton, Jake began gigging around Nottingham when he first started. He recalls his first gig which took place in the Loggerheads on Cliff Road before it closed in 2010.

"I remember my first gig as it was at the Loggerheads by the BBC Roundabout. They had an old cave there where you could turn up and play but it wasn't very exciting. There were only really about three people there and they were my family. That was one of the good things about growing up in Nottingham was being able to play in some of the venues and bars here. All of that experience really helps," he said.

"I played at The Maze which was an incredible venue but I remember the first time I played on the main stage at Rock City for Help the Heroes. I felt overwhelmed to be on the main stage but overall, every gig has been a good experience."

Playing to a hometown audience can be notoriously difficult for some performers. However with friends and family in the audience for his Nottingham shows, Jake says it can feel very supportive at the same time.

"There is a kind of pressure but there is also a pressure taken off you too. You have your friends and family there who go to the show and if anything goes wrong then they have your back. While there is definitely a pressure, I always feel support every time I play there as well."

Jake is now based in London but gets back to Clifton as often as he can. As an avid football fan, he misses visiting the home ground of his team, Notts County. Although he chose to watch the Monaco Grand Prix, he agreed that Nottingham Forest had an incredible turnaround.

"I get back a fair bit, especially after last year when things started to up a bit and obviously I wasn't able to tour. I could go back to visit the family. It was incredible to be with the family when the Euros were on and I still play football so I go back when I can. I miss going to see my team play when I'm away. That's the one thing I don't get to see often enough. I miss going to Meadow Lane to watch us play."

He added: "Forest had been out of the premier league for a while. They won the playoff so they deserved to go up When you look at the season as a whole, it was an incredible turnaround."

When it comes to the show, he hopes it will be a celebration that fans can join in on.

"We will be celebrating the ten-year anniversary by playing the album in its entirety. We will have a few new ones thrown in and I hope it's just a nice celebration where everyone has a good time."

Jake Bugg will perform at Motorpoint Arena on Saturday 26th November 2022. Pre-sale tickets go on sale from Wednesday 8th June at 10am and general tickets will be on sale Friday 10th June at 10am.
