Nottingham man dies after incident at EDF Energy nuclear power station

A fundraiser has been set up for a Nottingham man who was tragically killed in a construction site incident this week. More than £70,000 has so far been raised for the family of Jason Waring, who had worked as a supervisor at the construction site since 2018.

The fundraising page was set up on GoFundMe by Luke McGrew, who was a friend of the father of four. Mr McGrew said that Jason, who was from Nottingham, "worked hard to provide for his family and always had a good sense of humour" while being "liked by many people across the project with his northern wit."

According to EDF Energy, the "construction traffic incident" occurred during "planned work activities" at the Somerset nuclear power station, and the incident is being investigated by both the police and the Health & Safety Executive reports Somerset Live.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to the site of the incident at 8.30am and a man in his 60s has voluntary turned himself in at a police station in connection to the events of last Sunday. Work on the Hinkley Point C was paused following the tragedy, but has since resumed.

Sarah Waring paid tribute to her husband on Friday, November 18, saying: "Jason was a devoted and loving father who did everything for me and his sons and daughter. He was also a great friend, very loyal to many, and was always the life and soul of the party.

"We will miss him terribly." A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told MailOnline: "Officers continue to liaise with the Office for Nuclear Regulation and enquiries into the man's death, which isn't currently being treated as suspicious, are ongoing.

"Our thoughts remain with the man's family at this sad time." If you would like to donate to the fundraiser for Mr Waring's family, you can find out more here.
