A Nottingham branch of Lidl was forced to close after extreme weather conditions caused damage to its ceiling. Heavy thunderstorms and rain affected people across Nottinghamshire late on Monday (June 12), with the Met Office issuing weather warnings as a result.
The extreme weather followed an intense period of heat which saw some parts of the UK recording the hottest day of the year so far. The rain and thunder caused some disruption in Nottingham, with several tram services affected.
Supermarket giant Lidl has also confirmed that one of its stores in the city was forced to close due to damage caused by the weather. The company has several branches in Nottingham, but its outlet on Trowell Road in Wollaton was the one affected.
The company confirmed that the bad weather caused damage to its ceiling, with a member of the public reporting that a heavy ingress of rain had led to the problem. Lidl also confirmed that the damage was later repaired and that the store was back open as usual on Tuesday (June 13).
