Government data shows that Nottingham has one of the most used bus networks in England - despite a year in which operators faced challenges including staffing. The latest data shows that almost 30 million bus journeys were made in Nottingham last year.
The figure works out as around 93 journeys for every Nottingham resident, up from around 46 in the 2020-21 financial year. But this figure is down from the figure of around 131 that was recorded before the coronavirus pandemic.
The data does show an overall trend of declining bus journeys over the last ten years, with a drop off of around 43%. Although bus usage is declining across the UK, Nottingham still remains one of the most used networks.

The data shows that round 167 journeys were made per resident in London, which is the highest rate in the country. This is then followed by the Brighton and Hove area, with Nottingham coming out as having England's third most used bus network.
That's despite recent issues around staffing, with three of Nottingham's bus operators reporting a spate of service cancellations last year because of a driver shortage. Trentbarton said at one point that its driving team had 130 vacancies, around 17% short of what it required to run a full timetable.
Nottingham City Transport and CT4N were also forced to cancel scores of services last year. Other areas to feature in the top five in terms of England's most used bus networks include Reading, Tyne and Wear and the West Midlands.
