As we gallop towards another bank holiday, many of us will be thinking about spending time in the garden and making the most of the outdoor space on our doorsteps. But if you're planning to spend the upcoming days off getting your greenery in tip top condition that also means a trip to the garden centre.
Nottinghamshire has some fabulous garden centres scattered across the county. So, we have searched out where some of the largest are, what they have to offer and most importantly, when they'll be open over the bank holiday.
The Spring Bank Holiday will fall on Thursday, June 2, 2022. This year we have an extra bank holiday the celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, this will fall on Friday, June 3, 2022
Nottinghamshire Garden Centres and their bank holiday opening times are listed below. They are in no particular order.
East Bridgford Garden and Home
We start with a massive home and garden centre on the old A46 Fosse Way, East Bridgford, near Bingham. The Blue Diamond flagship store covers around 81,000 sq ft and sells everything from compost to garden furniture, has an array of plants and trees, as well as a large restaurant, clothes, homeware and gifts sections.
Also at the site is Ed & Molly's playbarn, a large car park with stores surrounding it including Trespass.

Trowell Garden Centre
The family-owned and run garden centre dates back to the early 1970s and over the years has evolved maintaining its core passion for plants but expanding to include a cafe, as well as being home to Maidenhead Aquatics Centre.
As well as stocking a range of plants, bulbs and seeds, the centre offers garden furniture, home and gits, wild bird care.

Notcutts Wheatcroft
If you're a Nottingham gardener then you'll know about Wheatcrofts. There has been at garden centre at this site for years. Now owned and run by Notcutts, the huge garden centre and home store has everything from bulbs to trees as well as various concession stores including Cotton Traders, Crane Garden Buildings, Hotter, Stormclad and more. There is also a restaurant for when all that shopping just gets too much.

Woodborough Green Garden Centre
You might know it by its former name, Timmermans, but now part of the British Garden Centre's family, the retailer is called Woodborough Green Garden Centre.
According to its website, visitors will find "a vast and well-stocked plants department which includes all the garden accessories and tools you should need." Adding: "We care about your projects so if you need any advice, feel free to ask our knowledgeable staff on site."

Bardills Garden Centre
Bardills can boast being a family business for more than 150 years. The Garden and Aquatics Centre says: "Plants are a huge passion of ours due to the business initially starting out as a rose nursery." However, this isn't where the garden centre stops.
Also on sale are indoor and outdoor plants and cacti, treats for wild birds in the form of feeders and food, there's a garden furniture and barbecue department, plus accessories and aquatics for your pond or tank. Of course, there is also a coffee shop

Brookfields Garden Centre
Family-owned, Brookfields Garden Centre in Mapperley says: "We’ve become a popular destination thanks to our fantastic range of plants, tools and gardening essentials." There's an impressive 3,000 square metres for its plant department, as well as a pets and aquatics centre, gift, homeware and garden furniture departments plus a coffee shop/lunch stop.

Moores Nurseries and Garden Centre
This friendly, family-run garden centre has been established for more than 40 years. With the third generation of Moores at the helm, the garden centre prides itself on its "a reputation for excellent quality plants at value for money prices".
Stocking an extensive range of plants, shrubs and trees as well as having a cafe on site, the garden retailer creates a lovely family atmosphere - there are even regular bingo and Sunday lunch events organised.

Floralands Garden Centre
You'll find a "veritable Aladdin's Cave" of gardening items at this garden centre on the edge of the Nottinghamshire countryside. Forming an integral part of the Floralands Leisure and Retail Community, the garden centre team says: "Whether you are a keen amateur, or a seasoned gardener we have all your essentials". They added that opening times [given here] are for the garden centre only, other stores on the site may have different times.

Jacksdale Garden Centre
With a wide range of products to suit a variety of budgets and tastes, this family run business have been operating since 2004. The friendly and knowledgeable staff say they are on hand to help and advise customers.
Along with an enviable selection of plants and shrubs, the garden centre also has a range of paving and aggregates, and a tea room which serves a selection of hot and cold home-cooked food including cakes, teas and speciality coffees.

Hilltop Nurseries
Hilltop Nurseries is a family owned and run nursery which was established in 1971. According to the Nurseries website, the team are "passionate about plants and providing customers with the very best there is to offer" adding, "whether that be locally grown bedding, homegrown basket and container plants or magnificent Italian specimens!"

Southwell Garden Centre
This garden centre is home to a range of plants in all shapes and sizes as well as gardening tools, planters and equipment. There's a tea room, craft and gift shop, plus plenty of advice on hand.

Reg Taylors Garden Centre
Reg Taylor's Garden Centre is a family business that has grown for well over 60 years. Set within a 25 acre site there's plenty here to keep you busy. Plus, aside from the garden centre, there are tea rooms, a mower shop and a Swan Sanctuary.
