Nottingham Forest are closing in on a transfer for Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi with a transfer domino effect in full effect.
Forest have been active in the transfer window so far this summer, making a number of signings. But Steve Cooper is keen to add further to his squad before deadline day, giving teams just a few more days to finish their business.
Left-back Omar Richards did arrive from Bayern Munich, but injury has prevented the 24-year-old from making his debut for the club. The Reds are therefore keen to add further to their squad depth in the full-back positions.

Reports earlier this week said that Forest have been ‘pushing’ to sign Lodi. But it now seems that they needed another transfer to go through in order to push through the deal of their own.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a double deal will see Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon sign for Atletico Madrid on loan and Lodi sign for Forest on loan is now ‘imminent’.
The report says that there is now an agreement between Forest and Atletico, which will see the Reds pay an initial €5 million loan fee. The deal also includes a €30 million buy option.
Atletico are willing to let the player go after reaching a loan agreement with Tottenham over Reguilon. Although there is no buy option included in that deal.
Lodi is yet to make an appearance for Atletico this season. He has though been an unused substitute for two of the club’s La Liga games in 2022/23.
Forest will now look to sort out personal terms with the 24-year-old ahead of completing a move for the player. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s game against Tottenham, Cooper hinted that there could be more new faces before the end of the transfer window .
“We want to sign more players. I know we’ve signed a lot, and we’re not going to shy away from talking about that or why we’ve done it. The reality is we would hope to have signed even more than what we have done by now, but that’s the nature of a transfer window.”
