Nottingham Forest transfer could finally give striker his long-awaited 'challenge'

Reported Nottingham Forest transfer target Cyle Larin has previously spoken about an intense desire to compete at the "highest level", including his wanting of a move to Europe.

Larin, 27, is leaving Turkish side Besiktas this summer after rejecting a new contract. In a somewhat strange turn of events, the Canadian international has removed any sign of his relationship with the Super Lig outfit by deleting every picture related to Besiktas from his Instagram account - it has led to some supporters of the club calling him "ungrateful".

According to reports in Turkey, Larin will "sign for either" Forest or Olympiacos, with both clubs owned by Evangelos Marinakis. Talks between parties are said to be at an "advanced level" as the Canadian looks to secure the next chapter of his future.

Such a move could finally answer Larin's desire to compete at the top level in Europe. If he chooses to sign for Olympiacos, he could be involved in the Greek side's campaign to qualify for the Champions League; meanwhile, a move to Nottingham Forest would allow him to showcase his talents in the Premier League.

Speaking back in 2017 when he was playing for MLS side Orlando, he told the Orlando Sentinel: " I think I'm at the right place to go play in Europe and it's the right time.

"I think I'll benefit. I have personal goals and dreams and I want to go to Europe and play. I think it's the right time."

"I think I'm ready to challenge myself and play at the highest possible level I can.

"My contract is ending this season, and I think it's the right time. I love playing for Orlando. MLS and Orlando have given me a lot, and in the three years I've been here, I love playing and I love the fans, but I think to reach my goals it's necessary to play at the highest level possible with the best players."
