Nottingham Forest transfer close to completion as midfielder set for exit

Nottingham Forest playmaker Joao Carvalho is on the brink of leaving Nottingham Forest amid claims he is set to fly out to Greece to seal a move to Olympiakos.

According to the Sun, the midfielder will complete a permanent transfer ahead of the January transfer window deadline after failing to nail down a place in Steve Cooper's starting 11.

The claims come after Gate 7 international reported the two clubs had reached an agreement on a deal which will see Carvalho join the Piraeus giants who are owned by Reds supremo Evangelos Marinakis.

It is reported that boss Pedro Martins has given the green light for the transfer to go ahead after initially putting the breaks on the move.

Olympiacos are said to have been keeping tabs on Carvalho for the last three years and have now decided to make their move for the playmaker who joined Forest from Benfica in 2018 for a fee of £12.5m.

Carvalho, a former Portugal under-21 international, was excellent in his first season at Forest, having scored four goals and registering eight assists in 40 appearances.

But his Reds career has stalled in the last year and has struggled to become a regular fixture in the starting 11. He has made just eight apperances this season.

Asked about Carvahlo's future last week, head coach Steve Cooper said: "I don’t know. If anything is close to being in or out, I’m sure the club would notify me at the right time.

“They know my feelings on everything. I trust them now to try to do the best they can."
