Nottingham Forest have been handed a blow in their hopes of signing Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet this season, with West Ham agreeing a fee for the player, according to reports.
The Reds are keen to add further to their squad in the closing weeks of the transfer window. Steve Cooper is keen to add more players, particularly in attacking areas, before the window closes on Thursday, September 1.
One of the reported targets is Cornet, who impressed in his first season in the Premier League in 2021/22. After joining from Ligue 1 side Lyon last summer, the Ivory Coast international scored nine goals in the Premier League.

Despite his performances, he couldn’t help to rescue Burnley from relegation to the Championship at the end of the campaign. Forest are one of the clubs wanting to give him a second chance in the Premier League this season, but they face competition from a number of clubs.
It now seems that West Ham have jumped to the front of the queue for the winger. Sky Sports report that the Hammers have agreed a deal with Burnley for the player this summer, with the buying club meeting the release clause of £17.5 million in Cornet’s contract at Turf Moor.
