Nottingham Forest could revisit their interest in a couple of former goalkeeping targets this summer, according to reports in Italy.
The Reds are hoping to bring back Dean Henderson on a permanent basis, following his successful loan spell from Manchester United. But that hasn’t stopped links with other shot-stoppers emerging ahead of the transfer window opening next Wednesday.
Lazio’s Luis Maximiano and Sampdoria’s Emil Audero are both said to have been eyed up for moves to the City Ground in January. And Italian newspaper La Repubblica, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, suggest the pair could be on Forest’s radar once again.
The report states “important offers” were made for Maximiano and Audero as the Reds “tried in every way” to clinch their signatures as they searched for cover for the injured Henderson. It was Keylor Navas who linked up with Steve Cooper’s side in the end, spending the second half of the campaign on loan from PSG.

The Costa Rican is now back at his parent club - likewise Henderson - and La Repubblica say Forest “could return” to Maximiano and Audero as they put a squad together for next season. Both players are likely to move on this summer.
They could even swap places, with Audero also linked with Lazio. Other English clubs could also target the 26-year-old, it is claimed. Meanwhile, Maximiano could also have potential suitors in Spain and Portugal.
Goalkeeper is a key position for the Reds to address this summer. They are in talks over bringing Henderson back, with the 26-year-old keen to make the move.
Forest also have Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath on the books, while youngster George Shelvey signed a new one-year deal last month and has been part of the first-team set-up. Horvath spent the campaign on loan at Luton Town and could move on, with the Hatters having previously indicated they hold an option to buy the American.
