Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Millwall winger Jed Wallace fell short during the January transfer window.
The Reds a re believed to have submitted several bids for the 27-year-old which were all rebuffed by the London club, despite the fact Wallace is out of contract in the summer when he will be able to leave on a free.
Wallace has just returned to action following injury and has insisted his main priority over the last month was getting fit again, rather than sorting out his future.
“My stance was that I was looking forward to playing football again. I was down in the dumps with my injury,” he told the BBC’s Football Daily podcast.
“There was a lot of noise around my contract and all that kind of stuff.
“I maintain that the Millwall fans [should] judge me on my performances. On the whole this season they’ve been pretty good.
“Don’t judge me on the one the other night [he came off the bench during the goalless draw with Preston on Tuesday] because I was rubbish. But I haven’t played much football, I only trained once going into that game.”
On his future, Wallace added: “My target at the start of season was getting Millwall promoted. It’s a long way off at the moment but I’ve always enjoyed playing in front of the crowd at The Den and entertaining them.
“I’ll do that for the rest of the season and whatever happens in the summer, happens in the summer.”
Millwall are currently 14th in the table and Wallace admits the season has been a major disappointment so far.
“My overriding emotion is frustration because I certainly believe we have a lot more at the football club than where we are in the league,” he said.
“When I look around training, the talent we’ve got in the group, to be where we are, there’s no getting away from the fact it’s a disappointment.
“If you’d offered me it August, I’d have been very disappointed and underwhelmed with it.”
