Nottingham Forest supporters hit back at ‘rattled fans’ after Steve Cook squad request

Nottingham Forest fans have hit back at their Premier League counterparts following the Reds' request to restore Steve Cook to their Premier League squad.

According to the The Telegraph, Forest are applying to the league to have the veteran centre-back reinstated to their 25-man roster following an injury crisis which has decimated Steve Cooper’s defensive options. Cook was left out of the squad for the second half of the season after a January loan move failed to materialise.

Scott McKenna and Willy Boly face lengthy spells on the sidelines after coming off injured early in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham. Moussa Niakhate has only recently returned to training following injury, leaving Felipe and Joe Worrall as the club’s only available central defenders ahead of Saturday’s clash with leaders Manchester City.

The request has not gone down well with the supporters of other clubs, with many saying Forest should swallow their medicine having been extremely active in the transfer market, both last summer and last month.

However, that reaction has amused Reds supporters, with some accusing fans of other clubs of double standards.

One tweeted: “All these other fans claiming Forest are 'cheating' etc are hypocrites. You'd be well in support of your teams doing the same.”

Another amused fan said: “The amount of rattled fans from other clubs on this thread is great entertainment.” A third posted: “Am drowning in everyone’s tears in this thread.”

Another Reds follower pointed out: “If you don't ask, you don't get. If they say no, we continue and nothing changes. If they say yes, no rules have been broken because permission has been given.”

Other fans suggested alternative solutions to Cooper’s defensive issues, with one suggesting: “Put O’Brien back in the squad and put Colback in defence.” One fan simply said: “Won’t happen, will set a precedent.”
