Nottingham Forest suffer Jesse Lingard blow at Manchester United as Roy Keane gives verdict

Nottingham Forest were dealt an injury blow before kick-off in Wednesday night's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jesse Lingard had been named in Steve Cooper's starting line-up, against his former club, but had to withdraw late on after apparently picking up an injury in the warm-up. Lingard's place in the side was taken by Emmanuel Dennis, while Alex Gibson-Hammond was added to the bench.

Former Forest and United star Roy Keane told Sky Sports: "Jesse getting an injury in the warm-up, it’s never nice for a player and the manager, but they’ve got options and Dennis is coming in. Listen, it’s not the end of the world but it’s not ideal. Hopefully Jesse is not too badly injured."

Former Forest defender Michael Dawson added: "He’s going to be disappointed of course, he’s been out since the last time Forest were here on the 27th of December, it was an opportunity for him in my opinion with Morgan Gibbs-White not in the team, being injured for a little while, we don’t know when he’s going to be back. Now Emmanuel Dennis comes into the team, not played for a long time, and an opportunity for someone."

Forest went into the game trailing 3-0 from the first leg at the City Ground. The winners of the tie will take on Newcastle United in the final at Wembley.

FOREST TEAM: Hennessey; Williams, Boly, McKenna, Lodi; Mangala, Freuler, Scarpa; Dennis; Johnson, Surridge.
