Nottingham Forest striker makes 'no excuse' admission after big-money transfer

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi says "there is no excuse" for him not to fit in at Nottingham Forest following his club-record fee switch from Union Berlin.

Forest paid a fee in the region of £17.5million for Awoniyi's services to maximise their chances of succeeding in their return to the Premier League, having started his career at Liverpool but leaving Anfield without making a senior appearance. While players often require some time to adapt to English football, the 24-year-old believes it is down to him to find a way to succeed.

"You have to fit in," he told German magazine Kicker. "There is no excuse. You have to find your way."

Having the influence of others around him, including former Mainz team-mate Moussa Niakhate, he believes has been beneficial. "We help each other," he added.

"The Premier League is my dream. Everybody knows that, including [being] here at the club."

Forest will play their penultimate pre-season friendly game on Tuesday evening against neighbours Notts County before welcoming Spanish side Valencia at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
