Nottingham Forest striker discusses future as Steve Cooper makes Championship prediction

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is expecting plenty of twists and turns in the Championship’s promotion race between now and May.

And he wants the Reds to seize the moment as they try to gatecrash the top six in the remaining games.

Cooper’s side have dropped out of the play-off spots on the back of two draws, sitting five points below sixth-placed Sheffield United, in 10th.

But the Welshman says it shouldn’t be forgotten where the team have come from and the impressive results they have claimed, having been bottom when he arrived in September.

“Through my time here, we’ve done most things - we’ve had comebacks, we’ve played really well and won, we’ve played really well and not won, we’ve played okay and lost, and played okay and won,” he said.

Special atmosphere

It has been adopted as an anthem by Nottingham Forest fans in recent weeks as the team have been pushing at the top end of the Championship table.

And it seems *that* Depeche Mode song has gone down just as well in the Reds dressing room, too.

‘I Just Can’t Get Enough’ has boomed around the City Ground after the likes of wins over arch rivals Derby County and FA Cup holders Leicester City, while it also got an outing at Blackburn Rovers after one supporter sneaked a speaker into the stadium.

It has only added to some outstanding atmospheres at games as Steve Cooper’s side chase a top-six spot - and the hope is it will get an outing again this weekend, when Forest host Bristol City.

Striker's future

On-loan Nottingham Forest attacker Nuno Da Costa has been speaking about his future as he looks ahead to the summer transfer window.

The striker is spending the season with French side Caen, and says they are eager to sign him at the end of the campaign but face some "difficulties".

Da Costa joined the Reds in January 2020 from Strasbourg but has made just 14 appearances in the Garibaldi, with his only goal for the club coming at the wrong end of the pitch.

Since he made the switch to Caen, Steve Cooper has replaced Chris Hughton in charge at the City Ground - and Da Costa has previously said the Welshman’s “philosophy” may better suit his own style.

Transfer battle

Nottingham Forest could face a battle should they revisit their interest in winger Josh Bowler in the summer.

The Reds tried to sign the Blackpool ace during the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their options in the wide areas.

They had multiple bids turned down and went head-to-head with Bournemouth for his signature on deadline day, in a dramatic finish to the month.

Bowler ended up staying put at Bloomfield Road, however, despite also being linked with Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
