Nottingham Forest 'still exploring' Steve Cooper alternatives as player claim made

Nottingham Forest are "still exploring" potential replacements for head coach Steve Cooper, it has been claimed.

There have been strong reports that Cooper and other senior figures behind the scenes could be at risk of losing their jobs. Forest sit bottom of the Premier League after Monday night's 4-0 defeat away at Leicester City.

According to the Daily Mail, Forest "retain a strong interest" in former Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton boss Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard is currently out of work and has been touted for a number of jobs in recent weeks as he looks to get back into a dugout.

It is also said that "the turbulence of the past 48 hours has affected certain members of the squad", many of whom were united by Steve Cooper a year ago and led an impressive charge to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

Forest players reportedly want the club to set out a clear plan going forwards, with many wanting Cooper to execute that plan. As things stand, Cooper will lead the team for Monday night's game against Aston Villa at the City Ground.

It comes after reports that Cooper's offer of a new contract was withdrawn by the Forest board. Many supporters had been pushing for the club to snap Cooper up on a longer-term deal after the successes of last season.
