Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson's explosion has stunned his manager as Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard comparison made

Rob Page admits he's been stunned by Brennan Johnson's progress since his introduction to international football just shy of two years ago.

The attacker made his debut for Wales in a 0-0 draw against the United States of America in November 2020 but has swiftly established himself as a key squad figure.

He scored against Belgium and Netherlands in the Nations League in June and registered a sublime assist for Kieffer Moore in the 2-1 defeat to the Belgians on Thursday night.

And Page has been blown away by the Nottingham Forest star's ability when using his pace in possession.

"He's been superb," said Page. "Honestly, he's come on so much in such a short time.

"I've asked something different from him tonight, I asked him to play as a midfielder, but when we get the ball we can find him in those pockets where Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard pick the ball up.

"When you see him run with the ball, it's brilliant isn't it. That's his game, that's his strength. He always looked a threat for us every time he got on the ball."

Johnson is likely to feature for his country once again as Wales host Poland at Cardiff City Stadium this weekend. The Red Dragons must win to avoid being relegated from the top tier of the Nations League.

Kick-off in the Welsh capital is at 7:45pm.
