Nottingham Forest stance on Djed Spence after Tottenham transfer claim emerges

Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has said that he "does not want to compare" summer signing Neco Williams with predecessor Djed Spence, who reportedly may be on the move from Tottenham during the January transfer window.

After arriving at the City Ground from Liverpool back in July, the Wales international has appeared to be the most natural successor to last season's loanee after the Reds were unable to re-sign Spence from Middlesbrough before Spurs made their move. While Williams' move saw an uptick in minutes compared to staying at Anfield, the Spurs signing has made just three late cameos under Antonio Conte in the Premier League so far this season.

Spence is out of favour to such an extent that the club are reportedly 'willing' to sanction a loan move for the player during the January transfer window. In the meantime, Forest have bolstered their options on the right with Serge Aurier also competing with Williams up until the last week, with Cooper switching the player across to the opposite side for Forest's two matches last week.

Reprising a role domestically that he has played regularly for the Wales national team tallies with Cooper's comments about the player loving "growth and learning". On Spence and Williams, the Forest boss said recently: “They are both attacking players, but I do not want to compare them."

Cooper was rather keener to speak about the club's current player, adding: “We are really happy with Neco. The exciting thing about Neco is he loves the growth and learning. He is a thinker. There are things he is always desperate to get better at.”

Should Forest be interested in bringing Spence back on loan? Have your say in the comments...
