Prospective Nottingham Forest signing Gustavo Scarpa has revealed that he turned down "much bigger" wages on offer to stay in Brazil with Palmeiras by agreeing to sign for Nottingham Forest when the January transfer window opens.
The 28-year-old is set to arrive at the City Ground as a free transfer in the new year on the back of a fine season that ended up with the reigning Copa Libertadores winners following that up with domestic success by topping the Brasileirão table by a distance. Three matches remain but the title is already wrapped up for Palmeiras as they sit 13 points clear of Internacional and are currently on a 20-match unbeaten run in the league.
Scarpa has played approaching 60 matches across all competitions this calendar year and has scored 12 goals while assisting a further 17 for teammates in his final season for the São Paulo-based side. The player's contract officially expires on New Year's Eve and he has revealed that an extension would have been on much improved terms than even Forest were offering.

"My renewal at Palmeiras would be much bigger than what I'm going to make in England," Scarpa told Palmeiras podcast Podporco. "But it's experience, time doesn't come back."
