Nottingham Forest sent transfer instruction over Manchester United talk

Nottingham Forest fans are in clear support of Steve Cooper making Dean Henderson the Reds' first signing of the summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported the Reds are looking to sign the once England international on loan with a view to a permanent £20m transfer. Nottinghamshire Live understands the Reds are hoping to complete a transfer with the suggestion being that the United shot-stopper is keen on the move after playing second fiddle to David de Gea.

If a deal does go through it would have major implications on Forest with Henderson - and United - likely to expect first team football for a player who is now 25. Brice Samba faces an unsure future with reports suggesting he will not sign a new contract. The shot-stopper is entering the final 12 months of his deal, however, the club insist they still want him extend his stay. He has been strongly linked with a return to France with Lens.

Back-up keeper Ethan Horvath has also suggested he needs regular games to maintain his World Cup hopes ahead of America lining up in this year's tournament. Further to that, Premier League rules say clubs can only loan two players at any one time - and they cannot be from the same club, which would hamper Forest's bid to bring back James Garner from United.

However, Premier League sub rule V.7.6.1 says 'any Temporary Transfer which become permanent', meaning a loan to buy deal could potentially be a loophole depending on the terms of any successful deal for Henderson.

This is what Reds fans have been saying about the Henderson link...

@joshnffc16: The Henderson news shows why people should stop moaning about signings and trust the board. We are a club that is run properly now. The signings will happen and they will be the right ones.

@ben_hardy89: Signing Henderson is a good bit of business if it all goes through

@Kirkieboy: Dean Henderson is a brilliant start to proceedings

@worlo24: As much as I love Samba, Henderson would be a big upgrade

@CherryWhite1864: Dean Henderson would be a solid first signing

@joshwpotts: Henderson and Pope are cracking keepers, but surely our priority has to be trying to keep Samba. Deserves a shot in the Prem! Also need to spend money in other areas of the pitch such as CM and up front, huge priority

@BaileyShipley_: I’ll be sad to see Brice go, I’ll miss him and his antics. However, Henderson is a great replacement

@beasphoto: Dean Henderson. Get him in
