Nottingham Forest rival Newcastle United for transfer after failed January bid

Nottingham Forest are set to rival Newcastle United for Marseille forward Bamba Dieng, according to reports.

The 22 year-old is highly rated in France, having scored eight goals and provided three assists in all competitions for Marseille last season. His performances in the first half of the 2021/22 campaign led to Newcastle tabling a bid for the player in the January window with Eddie Howe's side retaining their interest this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Forest are ‘targeting’ Dieng this summer as Steve Cooper looks to continue to add to his squad before the end of the summer transfer window. They do however have competition from the likes of Leeds, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Celtic, who are all said to have scouted the Senegal international.

It is also said that the player has ‘remained on the radar’ of Newcastle this summer after their interest in January. Reports in France claim that Dieng would cost in the region of £8 million this summer, with Marseille keen to offload the player.

The Daily Mail also add that Forest have seen an opening offer for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos rejected. The 21-year-old scored eight times and provided four assists in 46 appearances in all competitions last season.

It is said that Cooper is on the lookout for at least four new signings before the end of the transfer window with left-back, two midfielders and a striker targeted in the final weeks. The two latest links are said to be added to their ‘extensive list’ of potential targets as the transfer deadline ticks closer.
