Nottingham Forest receive major transfer boost as striker 'favours' City Ground switch

Nottingham Forest have reportedly been given a boost in the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay, with the striker said to favour a move to the City Ground.

Steve Cooper is keen to add more firepower to his squad during the final weeks of the transfer window, with Maupay emerging as a target. Forest do, however, have competition for the 26-year-old this summer.

It is claimed that both Fulham and Everton are also interested in the striker this summer, providing a potential stumbling block for Forest to complete the deal. The Reds are said to have had a £15million bid accepted by Brighton for the striker over the weekend.

But it now seems that Forest have been given a boost in their hopes of signing the striker before the window closes. The Evening Standard claim that Fulham have made an enquiry about Maupay, but the striker "favours" a move to Forest this summer.

Everton also have an interest, with The Athletic reporting that Maupay has held talks with Toffees boss Frank Lampard over a possible move. If the manager has convinced the striker to switch to Goodison Park is still to be seen.

The Brighton striker has been in the Premier League since joining Brighton from Brentford in the summer of 2019. He has scored a total of 27 goals for the Seagulls during that time.

Forest have added to their striking options over the summer transfer window. Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi completed a move from Union Berlin early in the window, and scored the decisive goal in last week’s 1-0 win over West Ham.

The weekend also saw Forest confirm the signing of Emmanuel Dennis from Watford. The 24-year-old scored 10 times in 33 Premier League appearances for the Hornets last season.
