Nottingham Forest receive honest Crystal Palace response over Steve Cooper link

Fed up Crystal Palace fans doubt Steve Cooper would be interested in leaving Nottingham Forest for the Eagles this summer.

The Reds’ relegation rivals have reappointed Roy Hodgson until the end of the season after sacking Patrick Vieira last week. The 75-year-old former England boss is a short-term solution, with Palace looking to appoint a long-term successor to Vieira in the summer.

The Eagles are longstanding admirers of Cooper and were linked with the Welshman before appointing Vieira in 2021. And according MailOnline, the Reds boss is among the in-work managers who are on their radar.

It seems unlikely Cooper, who has stated his commitment to Forest this season, would be interested in what many people would see as a sideways move. Even Palace fans reckon Cooper would turn down the opportunity to manager the south London outfit, with many pointing out the difference in transfer activity between the clubs.

While the Reds were active last summer and during the January window, Eagles supporters have grown increasingly frustrated over their board’s perceived lack of spending.

“He [Cooper] will want more than Tesco Clubcard vouchers to use for player recruitment, when things were not going well at Forest they extended his contract... different mindset,” quipped one fan on social media.

Another added: “Yeah right. As if he’d leave a club that signs a player every 7 minutes in the window to join one that does nothing up until deadline day, then spends it windmilling at former loanees.”

One Palace fan sarcastically tweeted: “Am sure Cooper would relish the change in budget and ambition.”

A fourth said: “Not a chance! He likes to spend money.” Another said: “No thanks, don't want Cooper, been given a brand new squad and still below us.”
