Nottingham Forest ready to 'try their luck' in transfer race for £10m-rated teenager

Nottingham Forest are said to be keen on promising teenager Etienne Camara ahead of the January transfer window.

The Reds are among a trio of Premier League sides credited with an interest in the Huddersfield Town midfielder, and it is claimed they could “try their luck” when the window reopens.

Camara recently triggered a one-year extension to his contract with the Terriers, due to the number of appearances he has made. He is now tied down until the summer of 2024, but that might not stop Huddersfield from considering cashing in as they look for a new buyer for the club.

The 19-year-old reportedly has a £10 million price tag on his head. And while the Championship side could consider letting him go, a sale and loan-back is said to be their preferred option.

In addition to Forest, The Sun claim Brighton and Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on Camara. But it is suggested Leicester City are “heading the race” as January looms.

The Frenchman joined Huddersfield’s academy from French Ligue 1 side Angers SCO in October 2020. He made his senior debut for the club the following January, but had to wait until this season for further first-team involvement. It has proved to be something of a breakthrough campaign for him, with 14 appearances under his belt so far.

The Reds made 22 signings in the summer as they prepared for life in the top-flight, with Terriers duo Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo among them. It has taken time for the new-look squad to gel, and head coach Steve Cooper has spoken about the challenges which came with such a mammoth overhaul.

The winter window is unlikely to be anywhere near as busy at the City Ground. Nevertheless, funds could be made available to help with Forest’s survival bid, with the team having moved off the foot of the table prior to the World Cup break.
