Nottingham Forest 'prove' Steve Cooper decision right as Liverpool shocked

Nottingham Forest supporters are over the moon after seeing their side shock Liverpool and end their nine-match winless run in the process.

After a goalless first half, Taiwo Awoniyi was in the right place at the right time to put the hosts in front against his former team by reacting first to fire the ball on the rebound past Alisson from point-blank range. Ryan Yates turned a Steve Cook cross following a well-worked free-kick onto the foot of the post but the Forest centre-forward was on hand to score against Liverpool where he spent six years without playing a match.

Forest fans now want to see more of the same from their side in their efforts to avoid relegation back to the Championship. Here is a selection of the social media reaction after that memorable match at the City Ground.

Jonno Reilly: Couldn't pick a man of the match for us today and that's the difference.

Jonathon Richardson: This is the first sign since the Tottenham game of a Stevie Cooper side. Pressing defending well and hitting on the break at pace.

Allan Jepson: I hope nobody was stupid enough to write us off.

Ashley Garwood: Proof that sacking managers early isn’t always the best option.
