Nottingham Forest promotion hero breaks silence after sealing shock transfer

Former Nottingham Forest loanee Philip Zincklernagel has sent a two-word message after making an impact in his early games for his new club.

The winger sealed a shock loan transfer from Olympiacos to Belgian side Standard Liege earlier this month, in the same summer he moved to the Greek team. The move to Olympiacos came about after Zinckernagel was part of the Forest squad to win promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years last season.

The 27-year-old spent the season on loan at Forest from Watford. But the move wasn’t made permanent when the summer window opened.

Instead Olympiacos, who are also owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, made their move for the player. The Greek side paid an initial fee of €2 million for the Dane.

However, after just two-and-a-half months and seven appearances for the club in all competitions, Zinckernagel completed a move to Belgium. In his first start for Standard on Sunday, the Dane was on the scoresheet twice in a 3-0 win over Club Brugge.

Following the game, the player has taken to social media to react to both his move and his goals. Posting pictures of his celebrations on Instagram, Zinckernagel simply wrote: “New home” along with red and white heart emojis.

Speaking after sealing his move to Standard , the player explained that the appointment of former Huddersfield man Carlos Corberan was one of the reasons behind his decision to leave the club . “I didn't want to play for the new coach, it was his predecessor who really wanted me,” Zinckernagel told the Belgian press.

After just six weeks with Olympiacos, Corberan was shown the door by Marinakis. That leaves the Forest owner on the lookout for a new manager for the club.
