Nottingham Forest promotion event being prepared in Old Market Square

Old Market Square is being prepared to be turned into a fanzone where Forest supporters will get the chance to celebrate with the players who won promotion to the Premier League. The Reds secured their place in the top flight for the first time in 23 years after beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday (May 29).

People in Nottingham and fans in London celebrated long into the night. But on Monday (May 30) morning, the clean-up operation had already been finished, and Old Market Square was being turned into a fanzone.

Large speakers could be seen being readied, along with barriers and a team of pyrotechnic experts. The event starts at 1pm, and fans are being asked to not arrive any earlier than 11.30am to make sure there is enough time for preparations.

It's thought to bring Nottingham to a standstill, as there will be road closures and diversions put in place, plus some temporary changes to bus services between 10.30am and 2pm. Trams will not move through Old Market Square for a short time and services will terminate at Royal Centre and Nottingham Railway Station.

Comedian and lifelong Forest supporter Matt Forde and BBC Radio Nottingham commentator Colin Fray will host the event. Nottingham City Council says the celebration is "designed to be a family event", and there is strictly no alcohol, flares or pyrotechnics allowed and anyone caught with the latter may be subject to a club ban.
