Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will invest in the club both on and off the pitch in the coming months as they prepare to play Premier League football next season.
The Reds returned to the elite of English football this weekend thanks to a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium. An own goal from Terriers’ defender Levi Colwill was the difference between the two sides.
As the final whistle went at Wembley, celebrations ensued in both the Forest end and back in Nottingham. The Forest squad attended an event along with thousands of supporters in Old Market Square on Monday.

When the celebrations die down, eyes will turn to preparing the club to be able to compete in the Premier League. According to the Sun , Marinakis is preparing ‘major investment’ this summer, and will be working closely with manager Steve Cooper and chief executive Dane Murphy in identifying summer transfer targets.
But it’s not just on the pitch where the investment will come. The report claims that the owner will spend over £2 million on renovating the training pitches at Wilford Lane, as well as £3.5 million into the club’s academy facilities.
Speaking during Monday’s celebration event, Marinakis promised Cooper that he will be given the resources to build his squad for next season. “Now is the time to give Steve all the ammunition he needs, to be able to not only survive but bring some good results,” he said .
“We have to invest more. Everybody talks about the television rights and money that comes in, but it is not enough for clubs in the first year. That’s why we must not be the poorer relatives of the Premier League. We need to buy some good players and some that will make the difference and have the experience who know the division.”
