Nottingham Forest signing Gustavo Scarpa showed why he will quickly win over his new teammates in a recent interview.
The Brazilian signed a pre-contract with the Reds this summer and the 28-year-old is set to officially join Steve Cooper ’s side in January. Scarpa has enjoyed his final few months with Palmeiras though, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists in 35 league games to help lead the Sao Paulo side to the league title.
The attacking midfielder is a one-time Brazil international but didn’t receive a call for the upcoming World Cup. It means Scarpa will be fresh once his time at Forest gets underway and a recent interview has highlighted two reasons why the former Fluminense man could prove to be a huge hit in the dressing room.

With a medal around his neck after Palmeiras got to lift the Serie A trophy, Scarpa was asked by journalists about how well he could speak English. Scarpa replied: “It’s not so good because I don’t practice that much and I have an American accent. So the British accent is too hard for me but I’m going to try!”
He then followed this up by saying “Can I have some water?” in an attempt at a mock British accent, which brought a chorus of laughs from the media. It shows that Scarpa should have no difficulties communicating with his Forest teammates and that his personality could also be a welcome addition around the Nigel Doughty Academy with supporters already warming to their new signing if reaction on social media is anything to go by.
The Brazilian played his final game for Palmeiras at the weekend and has been speaking openly about his move to England. Despite his performances at club level, Scarpa began to fear that he would not ever get the opportunity to play in the Premier League , aged 28, and is delighted to be making his ambition a reality.
"It is a dream that will come true. I think it's cool to make dreams come true, because that inner child is still alive in me,” Scarpa said .
"I'm very happy, very excited. I know it's going to be difficult because of the Premier League itself but also because of Nottingham Forest's current situation. But I'm extremely excited."
Scarpa capped off a superb campaign by winning the ESPN Brasil Golden Ball, awarded to the best player in the Brazilian league last season and in doing so joined an illustrious list of winners that includes Neymar and Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.
